What is the Tesla´s new solar roof?
Tesla´s solar roof is the option that the electric car manufacturer offers for your residential electric needs, the Tesla´s solar roof offers a complete installation that includes all the necessary items for a photovoltaic installation from the solar cells to the batteries for storing the power.
Tesla and solar energy?
After the purchase of SolarCity in 2016 Tesla started its own branch of manufacturing and installing photovoltaic solutions to the market using its world-renowned name, this purchase was made because SolarCity a company owned by Elon Musk (Tesla´s CEO) was declared in bankruptcy, and Tesla´s CEO said that it was a necessary purchase in order for Tesla to achieve its goal to an energy transition into renewable energies.
What Tesla offers?
Tesla offers 3 main products, the solar panels that vary in number according to your electric needs, the inverter necessary for the installation and the branded set of batteries called the “Powerwall”
What are the items installed at your home?
As said before, Tesla installs 3 components, the solar panels, the inverter and the powerwall set of batteries.
- Solar panels.
The solar panels included in the solar roof are the tile like looking panels that are esthetical very pleasant and also very efficient for supplying your home with energy, however, the cost of the solar roof is a bit higher in comparison to conventional solar panels.
The price is about 25% higher compared to common solar panels however, it is important to take into account that most solar installations are going to be working for over 20 or 25 years, and looks for 25 years are important since is a one time investment.
If looks are not that important for you, Tesla also offers installations with conventional solar panels.
- Inverter.
With the inverter happens something very similar like with the solar panels, Tesla offers its own inverter that works very good on installations and can be complimented with the Powerwall+, that simplifies the components on a practical manner, however, Tesla also offers other brands and types of inverters that work with the number of solar panels installed.
Tesla´s engineers will decide what kind of inverter suits the best for each installation, and if there is a need for more than one inverter.
- Powerwall.
The Powerwall and Powerwall+ are rechargeable battery systems that offers battery needs to the installations made by Tesla, the Powerwall and Powerwall+ work by saving the energy generated in the day by the solar panels and supplying that energy when there is no sunlight; it also offers some advantages like being able to check out the charge of the battery pack on your cell phone using an app, and being able to choose when to use the stored energy.
A Powerwall and Powerwall+ system can be composed of up to 10 Powerwall and Powerwall+, for satisfying all kinds of users, from homes to businesses.
The Batteries on the Powerwall and Powerwall+ are designed by Tesla engineers and are state-of-the-art.
